Effect of Compression Ratio on LNG Exchanger for Single Mixed Refrigerant Plant

In liquefying natural gas using the single mixed refrigerant system, the compression ratio for the compressor used will largely determine the power requirement of the system, coefficient performance of the cycle, efficiency of the main cryogenic heat exchanger and size of the exchanger. The power requirement also determines the energy cost for liquefaction. Five cases were considered with compression ratios of 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 for the single mixed refrigerant system. Different compression power requirement, UA, mean temperature difference and coefficient of performance were obtained. Plot of temperature versus heat flow for all five cases showed the performance of the exchanger in each of the cases.
