Abstract

The study examined the benefits of farmers’
participation in agroforestry practices in Taraba State, Nigeria. It
highlighted the level of farmers’ participation, the benefits derived from
agroforestry, as well as the challenges faced by farmers practising
agroforestry. A sample of 420 respondents drawn from 7 Local Government Areas
(LGA) out of 16 LGA in all the agro-ecological zones in Taraba State was
selected using multi-stage sampling techniques. The selected respondents were
administered validated questionnaire related to benefits derived and
participation level in agroforestry practices. Descriptive statistic of
frequency count and percentage were used to explain the data while inferential
statistics of Pearson product moment correlation was the analytical tool used
to test the null hypotheses. The study reveals that there is a significant
relationship between benefits derived and farmers’ level of participation in
agroforestry practices. Provision of adequate information to farmers through
extension agents on the benefits of agroforestry practices, in order to enhance
their level of participation was recommended.
